Adjusting Tip Presets

Billfold offers adjustable tip presets, allowing your attendees to tap a button and be on their way.

This article reviews how to set custom tip preset options, adjust the threshold for currency tips, and add custom text to the tip selection screen. All settings discussed in this article affect the guest checkout experience and the checkout screen that appears within the POS application.

Creating a Custom Tip Preset

  • In the Events section of your dashboard, select your event.

  • Click the Tips tab.

  • Create a tip amount by clicking the New Tip button on the right.

  • Enter the Amount and Type (percentage or currency amount).

  • Tick the box next to Default if you want the preset to populate all revenue centers.

  • Optionally, add the revenue centers you wish the tip amount to populate.

Once tip presets are created, the Tips screen will look similar to this:

NOTE: Newly created tip settings will not affect existing revenue centers. They will retain their original settings and can be manually adjusted. All revenue centers created after default tip presets are assigned will automatically be populated with them. Additionally, default options can be overridden in individual revenue center settings.

Adjust Revenue Centers' Tip Presets

If default tip presets are set during event creation, you may want to adjust them at specific revenue centers. For example, a revenue center that is a bar or food vendor will likely require different tip presets than a revenue center that is a merch vendor. You can change the tip presets in the Revenue Center settings.

  • Go to the Revenue Centers tab on your Events dashboard.

  • Click Edit on the top right.

  • Use the Tips dropdown menu to select from the tip presets created in the Tips menu.

Threshold for Currency Tips

Applying a threshold for currency tips provides more checkout flexibility and an opportunity for bartenders and salespeople to capture tips. The system will display three preset tip options that can automatically adjust to display three percentages based on the subtotal of the order or a specified currency amount.

Setting the tip threshold to "$0" would default in all orders equaling more than $0, to display preset percentage tip options at checkout. Setting the tip threshold to something like $5 would enable the POS system to display preset currency options for all orders with a subtotal of less than $5.

In Event settings:

  • In the Events section of your dashboard, select your event.

  • Select Edit from the downtown Actions menu on the right.

  • Scroll down to Other

  • Enter the amount you wish the threshold to be.

Note: If changes are made in Event settings, they will apply to newly created revenue centers. Existing revenue centers will not change and can be edited in their settings.

In Revenue Center Settings:

  • In the Event, go to the Revenue Centers tab

  • Click on the Revenue Center you wish to change

  • Click Edit on the top right

  • Scroll to Instant payment threshold and enter the amount you wish it to be

  • Be sure to include dollar tip amounts alongside the percentage amounts

Custom Tip Screen Messaging

In the interest of total transparency with guests and as an additional means of communication, the system allows for custom text to appear above the tip selection screen.

For example, suppose a revenue center has an auto-gratuity service charge already applied. In that case, the guest may not be aware, and adding further clarification at the tip selection screen allows the guest to make an informed decision about the tip they'd like to offer. Alternatively, if your bartenders are all volunteers, it doesn't hurt to let guests know and peak their generosity!

The custom tip selection screen text, when applied in the event settings, will be applied to new revenue centers as the default communication.

Creating Custom Tip Selection Screen Text

  • Navigate to the desired event within the organizer dashboard and open the settings

  • Scroll down to "OTHER" section and input the custom text you'd like to appear at checkout

  • Select update (or create) to apply the custom text

Additionally, custom tip selection screen text can be added at the revenue center level within the revenue center settings

  • Navigate to the desired event within the organizer dashboard and open the revenue centers tab

  • Find the revenue center from the populated list and select "Edit" to the right of the revenue center line

  • Scroll down to the bottom of settings and input the custom text you'd like to appear at checkout

  • Select update to apply the custom tip screen text
