How to use the Import function to add/update modifiers

If you have any items that require additions or an up-charge, a modifier is a good way to add those to your products. Below, you'll learn how to create modifier groups and how to add them to items. Think of modifiers like additions to an item that aren't part of the core product.

Creating a Modifier Group

  1. On the left side of the Billfold Dashboard, click Catalog and select Modifier Groups.

Note: If you do not see the Catalog or Modifier Groups within the dashboard menu option, please contact your Billfold account manager to for more information and to ensure that this permission is enabled for your account.

  2. Once within Modifier Groups, select New Modifier Group on the right.

  3. Fill in the base details of the group:

  4. Details Outline:

    • Name: This is the name within your dashboard. This makes it easy to identify if you need to apply it to multiple different items.

    • Display Name: This is how it will appear on the POS.

    • Minimum possible selections: This sets the minimum selection required. If it is a mandatory modification, it requires a minimum selection of 1. If the modifier is optional, then the minimum should be set at 0.

    • Maximum possible selections: This sets the maximum number of times the modifier can be selected.

    • Status: If the modifier needs to be on the POS, then set it to Active. If the modifier does not need to be visible yet, set it to Archived.

  5. Select Add Modifier for every selection you wish to have. If applicable, add a price, tax, and COGS to the selections.

Note: Modifier prices are additive to the base item sale only. At this time, modifiers are not subtractive from the base item price

  6. Click Create Modifier Group to save.

Updating Modifier Groups

  1. On the left side of the Billfold Dashboard, click Catalog and select Modifier Groups.

  2. Locate your Modifier Group using the Filters at the top to search for it. Once located, select Edit to begin updating.

  3. Make the necessary adjustments, then select Update Modifier Group.

NOTE: Updates made to a modifier group will affect every item the modifier group has been assigned to.

How to Add a Modifier Group to Menu Items Individually

  1. After creating a Modifier Group, navigate to the Menus tab in Catalog and select View next to the menu with the items requiring your new Modifier Group.

  2. Select Items from the Submenu within your Menu, then use the filters to locate the product(s) requiring the Modifier Group.

  3. Select Edit next to the product.

  4. Scroll down to Modifier Groups, select the Modifier Groups from the dropdown menu, and drag and drop them in the order you want them selected.

  5. Repeat these steps for each of the menu items that the modifier group should apply to

How to Bulk Add Modifier Groups to Items

If you have several modifier groups to add and items to update, we recommend using the import function. When Modifier Groups are created, a unique ID is created automatically. That unique ID will be used on the template to attach Modifier Groups to items.

  1. How to Input the ID:

Notes:

  • If you have multiple modifiers for the same product input their IDs in the order you want them to appear and separate them by commas (###, ####, ####)

  • If you've already uploaded your menus, export the menu following the steps outlined here to edit your existing items. All you'll need to do is add the unique Modifier Group code(s) to the items within the template as shown below.

  • If you haven't uploaded your menus yet, follow the steps outlined here to import items in bulk.
